Mark Chappelle
Mark Chappelle Coston was born April 17, 1979 in Bakersfield, California, where he was also raised until he moved to Northridge, California to attend college. Music has pursued him even as a small child - whether via the love of such, or the rigorous discipline to create it. From a fairly young age he ascertained that his existence was to be forever intertwined with music.
He is a revolutionary, concerto connoisseur with a heartfelt, classically elegant style of craftsmanship. Authenticity is the overarching guiding force, unanimously drawing the fruits of his musician's prowess to a point, aimed straight at the veiled heart of every listener. Mark's spiritual journey is reflected in much of his lyrics because, although raised a Christian, he doesn't feel he truly became one until he heard God's voice for himself with the option to respond or ignore. "The music I write or choose to record is probably a good illustration of my faith walk. I'd rather not sing something I can't identify with..."
Not one to trade chart topping quality for sheer emotional investment however, Mark utilizes his perfectionist nature to breathe cross-cultural life into his work and commits his entire being into every project. He has opened for Mute Math on two national tours, had an uncredited number one song on KOKF FM, the largest radio station in Christian music in 2000, and worked as a designer/art director the Tonex, Fred Hammond, Chante Moore and several others. He also briefly studied under Kenny Lattimore, developing his technical prowess and gaining comfort with the strength and gentleness in his baritone, who remains a close mentor to him to this day.
"Most of us regret the things we don't do... not the things we did. There's no reason we shouldn't be fearless enough to say, it could happen to anyone, so why can't it happen to me?" ~Mark Coston
